A magnetic stirrer is a laboratory instrument used for liquid mixing, mainly for stirring or simultaneously heating and stirring low-viscosity liquids or solid-liquid mixtures. Let's learn about the introduction and usage precautions of magnetic stirrers!
The basic principle of a magnetic stirrer is to use the principle of magnetic field repulsion and attraction to drive a magnetic stirring bar placed in a container to rotate, stirring the liquid. Combined with a heating temperature control system, it can heat and control the sample temperature according to specific experimental requirements, maintaining the temperature conditions required for the experiment and ensuring that the liquid mixing meets the experimental requirements.
In the laboratory, it is often necessary to stir and analyze the solution of the measurement object, such as pH measurement, potentiometric titration, and potentiometric measurement. These are all performed on a magnetic stirrer. Magnetic stirrers are widely used in universities, environmental protection, scientific research, health, epidemic prevention, petroleum, metallurgy, and medical institutions.
There are many types of magnetic stirrers. In addition to the stirring function, additional functions such as heating temperature control and timing are added. According to the additional functions of the magnetic stirrer, the main types include magnetic stirrers, constant temperature heating stirrers, and digital temperature control magnetic stirrers. According to the stirring capacity of the magnetic stirrer, there are micro magnetic stirrers, large magnetic stirrers, and multi-unit magnetic stirrers.
A magnetic stirrer consists of a motor, magnetic steel, stirring rotor (also known as a magnet), stirring plate, speed control device, etc. The permanent magnet steel under the tray drives the permanent magnet steel to rotate through the rotation of the motor, using its magnetic force to attract the stirring rotor to rotate, achieving the stirring effect. On the other hand, magnetic stirrers with heating functions also have resistance heating wires and mica insulation layers that rotate with the magnetic steel, and the panel is equipped with a speed control knob, temperature control heating switch, and indicator lights to turn on the power, control the rotation of the magnetic steel, and heating.
The magnetic stirrer follows Coulomb's law of magnetism, utilizing the characteristic of isotropic repulsion of magnetic materials. During operation, the motor rotates the permanent magnet, and simultaneously rotates the rotor in the coupling container, thereby transferring external power to the internal rotor without contact or friction, achieving stirring.
Magnetic Stirrer Precautions:
When stirring with a magnetic stirrer, please turn the speed control knob to a lower setting, then turn on the power and gradually increase the speed to the appropriate level. If the acceleration is too fast, the stirring rotor will keep jumping. In this case, immediately return the speed to "low", and slowly accelerate after the rotor stops.
Liquids with higher viscosity at room temperature often have poor thermal conductivity. When heating and stirring, do not raise the temperature rapidly to avoid container breakage.
Intermittent use can extend the lifespan.
Place the container in the appropriate position on the metal tray and stir and rotate to avoid contact with the container wall during rotation. Otherwise, the stirring will become faster or slower, affecting the stirring effect. Keep the outer wall of the container dry.
Turn off the power immediately when not using the magnetic stirrer.
Please pay attention to the environmental hygiene of the magnetic stirrer and its surroundings.
